Be A Mentor …. Make A Difference

The Marion County Children’s Alliance, the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), in conjunction with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, developed a program for juveniles under the supervision of DJJ who are at risk and have had a single minor contact with law enforcement.

It’s simple. Mentors must complete a background check as required by Florida Statute, agree to be responsible for the youth and agree to spend a minimum of four hours a month together.

Have a Heart for Bottoms

Have a Heart for Bottoms

A Community Outreach started by the Marion County Children’s Alliance in May 2005 to assist women and children who seek shelter at the Ocala/Marion County Rape Crisis - Domestic Violence Center.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
The Alliance seeks sponsorships from individuals, churches, clubs and organizations to help serve the needs of these women and children by purchasing 600 diapers of assorted sizes (preferably sizes 2-6), diaper wipes and Ziploc freezer bags. Depending on where items are purchased, we estimate $150 can buy approximately 600 diapers and several containers of baby wipes and Ziploc bags, but all donations, big or small, make a difference.

DROP OFF LOCATIONS
Donations can be dropped off in the lobby of the Marion County Public Library, 2720 East Silver Springs Blvd., or the Freedom Library, 5870 S.W. 95th St. or Marion County Children's Alliance, 3482 N.W. 10th St. during business hours. Checks can be mailed or dropped off at the Children’s Alliance office, located at 3482 N.W. 10th St., Ocala, FL 34475. Domestic Violence Shelter should be noted in the Memo field of the check.

    Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence Reenactment Is a crime and a choice made by one person.
It is a pattern of controlling behaviors that may include physical, sexual or emotional abuse. Domestic Violence exists in heterosexual and homosexual relationships. Even if your partner does not physically hurt you, threats of violence may be reinforced by intimidation, blame, denials, threats, isolation and force.

THE VIOLENCE CAN CAUSE SEVERE PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL HARM IN ADULTS AND CHILDREN!
YOU MAY BE A VICTIM IF YOUR PARTNER:
  • Kicks, pushes, hits or slaps you
  • Makes negative remarks or calls you names
  • Threatens to kill you or someone you love
  • Harms or threatens to kill animals
  • Forces you to have sex
  • Controls all or most of the money
  • Is possessive or extremely jealous
  • Threatens to take your children
  • Doesn’t allow you to see friends or family
  • Tells you what to wear
  • IF YOU’RE EXPERIENCING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
  • Talk to a counselor, minister or friend
  • Notify someone about the abuse
  • Get help from the local Domestic Violence Center
  • Practice an escape plan
  • Teach your children how to escape and get help
  • Make A Safety Plan

  • DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TENDS TO GET WORSE OVER TIME. IT DOES NOT GO AWAY ON ITS OWN.
