Alliance Afterschool Academy

The Marion County Children's Alliance (MCCA) was organized in 2000 by our community leaders. Since then the MCCA has worked in many different ways to improve the lives of the 60,000 children in Marion County. To date over 20,000 children have been impacted by MCCA.

"Children First" is our motto. Our commitment is to provide a safe, healthy and nurturing environment where all our children can learn and grow.

Since 2002 the Alliance has offered a variety of afterschool programs; both during the school year and in the month of June. The availability of funding has been the major determinent as to how many children were served.

This past June with financial support from Kids Central we served 800 children at 16 different sites around Marion County. Most of the programs focused on academic tutoring to help students improve their reading and math skills. In addition we offered Spanish, fundamentals of boxing and nutritional education.

Afterschool Tutoring Does Not Have To Be The Same Old Thing!

Children can't learn when they are bored, restless and watching the clock. Afterschool tutoring should be exciting, fun and educational! Depending on the situation we work to provide homework assistance, tutoring in reading, language arts, math and writing as well as arts & crafts and recess time.

Current programs of the Academy:
    - Supplemental Education Services (SES)
    - Turning Point Mentoring Center
    - Summer Enrichment
    - Summer Activity Guide
