Alliance Afterschool Academy

The Marion County Children's Alliance (MCCA) was organized in 2000 by our community leaders. Since then the MCCA has worked in many different ways to improve the lives of the 60,000 children in Marion County. To date over 20,000 children have been impacted by MCCA.

"Children First" is our motto. Our commitment is to provide a safe, healthy and nurturing environment where all our children can learn and grow.

Since 2002 the Alliance has offered a variety of afterschool programs; both during the school year and in the month of June. The availability of funding has been the major determinent as to how many children were served.

In addition, this is our 10th year of collaboration with Family Times Publishing publishing 50,000 copies of the 2010 Summer Activity Guide (SAG) distributed throughout the community to assist parents in finding activities for their children during the summer months.

Afterschool Tutoring Does Not Have To Be The Same Old Thing!

Children can't learn when they are bored, restless and watching the clock. Afterschool tutoring should be exciting, fun and educational! Depending on the situation we work to provide homework assistance, tutoring in reading, language arts, math and writing as well as arts & crafts and recess time.

Current programs of the Academy:
    - Supplemental Education Services (SES)
    - Summer Activity Guide
Details of the various programs are described below.

Supplemental Educational Services (SES)

In order for your child to be eligible for free tutoring your child must attend a Title I school that is identified as a school in need of improvement, corrective action or restructuring AND be eligible for Free or Reduced Price Lunch.

SES is defined as free tutoring or other additional academic enrichment services in reading, language arts and mathematics that are provided beyond the normal school day.

They are of high quality, researched based and specifically designed to increase academic achievement at Title 1 schools in need of improvement.

Your child may qualify for free tutoring if your child is eligible for free or reduced lunch AND attends an eligible 1 school. If parental requests for free tutoring exceed the amount of funding available, the school district will serve the students with the greatest need.

Neither the Florida Department of Education nor the School District promote or endorse any particular Supplemental Educational Services provider.

How to Enroll, obtain an enrollment form from the Title 1 office or your child's school; complete the enrollment form and list MCCA as one of your provider choices and return the form to the Title 1 office or your child's school.

Why Enroll with MCCA? - * An SES provider for the last 5 years, * A local non-profit founded in 2000, * Certified teachers & tutors * Individualized learning plans for each student, * Tutoring in reading and language arts, * Trained bilingual staff, * Small group ratio is 1:5 and * Large group ratio is 1:10.
